Several of Reese News Lab’s ventures hold periodic workshops for industry partners, both in Carroll Hall at UNC’s School of Media & Journalism as well as around the country and via video conference. Fridays in the Lab
Throughout the school year, the Reese News Lab hosts three-hour workshops that focus on the skills and concepts that are driving the future of journalism. Although the workshops are aimed at students, professional journalists are also invited to attend in person, remotely via live video conferencing or at another convenient time by watching recorded video of the workshops. Contract Product Development
Our Emerging Technologies Lab, led by associate professor Steven King, works with companies from a variety of industries to build prototypes and production-quality emerging storytelling experiences. For local news organizations, this fee-for-service partnership is available on a limited basis thanks to the generosity of the Knight Foundation’s funding of UNC’s Center for Innovation & Sustainability in Local Media.

.Reese News Lab offers companies student-led consulting on journalism innovation projects, primarily through our summer media innovations fellows program. Through the Knight Foundation’s funding of UNC’s Center for Innovation & Sustainability in Local Media, five students work in local newsrooms each summer to help organizations on everything from strategy to digital product development.
